two phase treatment
Treatment that works with growth, not against it
There is more to achieving a great smile than just your teeth.
What is two phase treatment?
Two-phase treatment is an orthodontic approach that separates care into two stages based on growth and development. Not every child needs two phases, but for some, early guidance can make later treatment simpler and more effective.
*It is important to note that not all children require phase one orthodontics, and is determined on a case-by-case basis based on the patient’s individual dental and skeletal development.
Phase 1 (skeletal)
The goals of phase 1 are to guide the growth and development of the jaw, create a more favorable environment for the eruption of permanent teeth, improve facial aesthetics, and the airway.
Phase 1 treatment can involve the use of different appliances, such as bite correctors or palatal expanders to address issues like overcrowding, crossbites, and other malocclusions.
Not only do these appliances create room for all of the adult teeth to erupt successfully, but they also optimize facial appearance and improve the airway.

Phase 2 orthodontics typically begins at age 12 or older. It is strictly based on when all of the patient’s primary teeth have fully grown in and no further bite correction is necessary.
The primary goal of Phase 2 is to achieve a fully aligned, stable bite and a picture perfect smile.
What Sets Our Phase 1 Apart From Others?
Phase 1 treatment is about far more than straightening teeth. What makes our approach unique is the depth of diagnostics, long-term growth monitoring, and comprehensive planning that goes into every case.
We utilize advanced 3D imaging to evaluate airway health, jaw development, tooth positioning, and facial growth patterns with exceptional accuracy. This allows us to diagnose concerns earlier and design treatment plans that address root causes, not just visible symptoms.
Our care doesn’t stop when Phase 1 ends. Patients continue with yearly growth and development checkups to monitor jaw maturation, airway progress, and dental eruption. This proactive approach ensures we time Phase 2 treatment, whether braces or clear aligners, at the most optimal stage for efficiency and stability.
By combining detailed imaging, airway-focused planning, and long-term follow-up, we create a Phase 1 experience that is truly growth-guided and development-driven.
you've got questions, we've got answers.
Does every patient need two phases?
No, not every patient requires two phases. Some benefit from just one, others need both- it is all determined on a case-by-case basis.
How do I know if braces or clear aligners are right?
Both options can achieve excellent results. Braces provide precise, consistent movement for complex alignment or bite issues. Clear aligners are removable and discreet, which many teens and adults prefer, but they must be worn as directed to be effective
How long does Phase 2 treatment take?
Most Phase 2 cases take 12–24 months, depending on the complexity of tooth movement and bite correction. Treatment time is subject to change based on the patient’s compliance.
What happens when Phase 2 is complete?
After treatment is completed, you will receive final retainers. These are intended to be worn at night for life. These are intended to keep your teeth aligned and ensure the best, lasting results for the appearance of your smile!
